The collectd smart plugin requires the CAP_SYS_RAWIO capability. CAP_SYS_RAWIO is not present by default in the configuration, and before this update, you could not add it. With this update, you can use the CollectdContainerAdditionalCapAdd parameter to add CAP_SYS_RAWIO. Enter the following parameter value assignment in an environment file. .Example ---- parameter_defaults: CollectdExtraPlugins: - smart CollectdContainerAdditionalCapAdd: "CAP_SYS_RAWIO" ----

How to test
$ podman inspect collectd

see "CapAdd", there should be

"CapAdd": [
                "CAP_IPC_LOCK"
            ],


Then, add to a deployment yaml file:

CollectdContainerAdditionalCapAdd:
    - "CAP_SYS_RAWIO"

and redeploy. It should get added to collectd Capabilites

That was not possible before this change.

[2022-06-20 10:42:26] plugin_load: plugin "smart" successfully loaded.

No  "CAP_SYS_RAWIO capability is missing" error messages observed.

I have also verified that the documentation at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_openstack_platform/16.2/html/operational_measurements/collectd-plugins_assembly under the _collectd::plugin::smart_ section does refer to this capability.
