Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Dave Malcolm 2021-07-27 16:49:09 UTC
See also bug 1986479 (for clutter)

Building clutter-gtk with LTO was disabled for a while in Fedora by Jeff Law in 1.8.4-8:
  https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/clutter-gtk/c/8ca9a89937e77e663f9bcef11ec6e019abab7cde
with the message:
 # gobject introspection does not work with LTO. There is an effort to fix this
 # in the appropriate project upstreams, so hopefully LTO can be enabled someday

Jeff later reenabled it in Fedora in 1.8.4-11:
  https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/clutter-gtk/c/31b43de21fe30f78778fa4eb9985c45c10161c42
(Jeff is no longer at Red Hat)

However, LTO is still disabled in clutter-gtk.spec in CentOS stream:
  https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/clutter-gtk/-/blob/c9s/clutter-gtk.spec
and RHEL 9 beta:
  http://pkgs.devel.redhat.com/cgit/rpms/clutter-gtk/tree/clutter-gtk.spec?h=rhel-9.0.0-beta
(both at 1.8.4-11)

Please look at re-enabling LTO for clutter-gtk in c9s and RHEL 9 so that it can benefit from LTO (smaller/faster binaries, deeper analysis for compiler warnings, etc).

Hopefully it's just a trivial case of removing:
   %global _lto_cflags %{nil}
from the specfile; if not, let me know if you run into other issues and want help from the toolchain team.

Is there a link for the upstream issue?
Possibly these ones:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gobject-introspection/-/issues/280
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1676679
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/1692

Thanks!
