Since the first Rawhide compose after the mass rebuild - Fedora-Rawhide-20210728.n.3 - the memtest entry in the boot menu on Fedora installer images (netinst, DVD) does not work. If you navigate to "Run a memory test" and hit enter, instead of running memtest as it should, it just cycles immediately back to the top-level boot menu. I'm not yet sure why this is.
gcc problem? Looks like nothing changed in memtest86+ between memtest86+-5.31-0.4.beta.fc35 and memtest86+-5.31-0.3.beta.fc34
Also nothing between syslinux-6.04-0.18.fc35 and syslinux-6.04-0.17.fc34. (Other than gcc.)
yeah, something in the toolchain would be my bet. i'll see if i can see any more about what's going wrong manually tomorrow.
CCing Jakub and Florian in case they have any ideas here. I'm moving the bug to memtest86+ itself for now as on second thought it's more likely to be there; I looked at what syslinux does to launch it, and it's nothing complicated or that seems like it would likely have gone wrong. The upstream for memtest86+ is very, uh, quiet (no forum, no mailing list, no forge, no bug tracker) so there's not much to go on there. The package hasn't really been touched outside of automated/scheduled builds since last May, when jskarvad bumped it to 5.31 beta.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 35 development cycle. Changing version to 35.

For now I've proposed https://pagure.io/fedora-comps/pull-request/676 to remove memtest86+ entirely from images (I think that PR should do the job). The image creation tools should then omit the menu entry, so we're at least not offering a broken tool.
We also need a new build of lorax to do that: https://pagure.io/fedora-comps/pull-request/676#comment-157031 so we need an FE to merge it for Beta. I think removing the non-functional memtest boot entries would be a good change to get into Beta, so I'm proposing this.

+3 in https://pagure.io/fedora-qa/blocker-review/issue/438 , marking accepted FE.
I'm planning to see how the next Rawhide compose goes before landing this for F35. Today's Rawhide compose didn't include the new build.
Update didn't go stable for Rawhide yet because one of its CI tests failed. I'm re-triggering those to see if that clears it.
lorax change seems to have worked out OK in Rawhide, so I'll push it for F35 too and merge the comps PR.
