What confusing for me (and probably a lot of noob users like me) is:

Why are we using a different versioning scheme than the original?

In Github, we have Starship 1.2.1 but in Fedora, we have Starship 0.56.0.
Doesn't make sense! To add more confusion, we even have get this from the terminal:

⟹ starship --version
starship 0.56.0
branch:
commit_hash:
build_time:2021-09-30 12:45:52
build_env:rustc 1.55.0 (Fedora 1.55.0-1.fc35),

I was expecting to see the correct version of Starship at least somewhere.
Someone, please EL5 on this issue.

(Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place.)

It's not a different versioning scheme, we just have a *very old* version right now.

You can find 0.56.0 on GitHub too:
https://github.com/starship/starship/releases/tag/v0.56.0

Updating starship to the latest version was blocked by missing packages for new crate dependencies, but I'll look into whether that's still true.

Comment 11 Fabio Valentini 2022-02-05 11:24:43 UTC
I was able to downgrade all starship dependencies to the versions we have in Fedora, except one:

We need toml_edit ^0.13, which depends on kstring, which was retired.

OMG, I even tried to look at that (0.56.0) version in their Github release packages to see if such a version exists. I only scrolled once. Sadly we have a very old package.

Does this mean, there is no hope?
