Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Yanhui Ma 2021-09-01 04:00:44 UTC
Description of problem:

After live migration of win10 guest with failover VF between rhel8.4.0 and rhel8.5.0, the VF network connection is disabled, and ping the src host and dst host ip also fail.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

8.4.0 host:
qemu-kvm-5.2.0-16.module+el8.4.0+12393+838d9165.8.x86_64
kernel-4.18.0-305.16.1.el8_4.x86_64

8.5.0 host:
qemu-kvm-6.0.0-29.module+el8.5.0+12386+43574bac.x86_64
kernel-4.18.0-338.el8.x86_64

network driver version:
100.85.104.20700

How reproducible:

100%
Steps to Reproduce:
1. create private bridge br0 based on the PF ens1f1

2. create VF from the same PF
#echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:43\:00.1/sriov_numvfs
pci@0000:43:00.1  ens1f1     network        Ethernet Controller XXV710 for 25GbE SFP28
pci@0000:43:0a.0 ens1f1v0 network Ethernet Virtual Function 700 Series

3. setup vm network
# virsh net-dumpxml failover-bridge
<network>
  <name>failover-bridge</name>
  <uuid>c55477d3-4733-4f8e-af10-90fd31d7db6e</uuid>
  <forward mode='bridge'/>
  <bridge name='br0'/>
</network>

# virsh net-dumpxml failover-vf
<network>
  <name>failover-vf</name>
  <uuid>715e0d11-f035-4c82-9fff-3fc6de66c1a3</uuid>
  <forward mode='hostdev' managed='yes'>
    <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x43' slot='0x0a' function='0x0'/>
  </forward>
</network>

4. start a VM with a failover vf and a virtio net device

the related domain xml:
<interface type='network'>
      <mac address='52:54:00:aa:8c:ef'/>
      <source network='failover-bridge'/>
      <model type='virtio'/>
      <teaming type='persistent'/>
      <alias name='ua-test'/>
      <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x04' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/>
    </interface>
    <interface type='network'>
      <mac address='52:54:00:aa:8c:ef'/>
      <source network='failover-vf'/>
      <teaming type='transient' persistent='ua-test'/>
      <address type='pci' domain='0x0000' bus='0x05' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/>
    </interface>

the qemu cmd line:
-netdev tap,fd=41,id=hostua-test,vhost=on,vhostfd=42
-device virtio-net-pci,failover=on,netdev=hostua-test,id=ua-test,mac=52:54:00:aa:8c:ef,bus=pci.4,addr=0x0
-device vfio-pci,host=0000:43:0a.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.5,addr=0x0,failover_pair_id=ua-test

5. check the network info and ping src, dst host ip and other private ip

6. migrate the vm
# virsh migrate --live --verbose win10 qemu+ssh://10.73.73.96/system

7. after migration, check network info and ping again

8. reboot the guest, check network info and ping again

Actual results:
After step 7, the VF network connection in guest is disabled, and ping the src host and dst host ip also fails. But ipconfig output seems normal. Pls see attachment for details.

After step 8, guest network works well, ping successful.

Expected results:

After both step 7 and 8, guest network works well, ping successful.

Comment 4 Yanhui Ma 2021-09-01 04:06:40 UTC
The issue also can be reproduced by migration between rhel9 hosts.

Comment 5 John Ferlan 2021-09-08 21:48:21 UTC
Move RHEL-AV bugs to RHEL9. If necessary to resolve in RHEL8, then clone to the current RHEL8 release.

Comment 6 John Ferlan 2021-09-09 21:07:01 UTC
Assigned to Ariel for initial triage per bz process and age of bug created or assigned to virt-maint without triage.

Comment 8 ybendito 2021-09-16 05:44:28 UTC
Please provide "lspci" and "ip addr" output on the source host machine before migration and on the target host machine after the migration.
Thanks.

Comment 9 ybendito 2021-09-16 09:50:31 UTC
Please also describe which netkvm driver is used and whether the vioprot was installed on the guest machine.

"lspci" and "ip addr" output on the source host before migration:

I have provided it in comment 0 and vioprot was not installed.
network driver version:

Does the migration work as expected in this exact configuration if the VM is Linux?

For Linux guest, there is a different bug, it seems not related with the windows. Pls refer to following link.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1969306#c9

Comment 14 Yanhui Ma 2022-04-08 06:15:35 UTC
live migration win10 from rhel8.5 to 8.6, the results are different with the original bug.

After step7, the VF network connection in guest is unidentified, not disabled. But ping the src host and dst host ip works well. And ipconfig output also is normal. Pls see attachment(unidentified network) for details.

After step8, all things are normal.

Comment 16 Yanhui Ma 2022-04-08 06:28:16 UTC
And try win2019 guest with all the same environment and windows network driver on comment 14, the network connection is normal, no bug.

Comment 17 Yanhui Ma 2022-04-12 09:45:10 UTC
Test win10 guest between rhel8.4 and rhel8.5, between 8.5 and 9.1, both works well, no the issue now.

Test again with comment 14, also no the issue.

Based on above results, first closed the bug. If I meet the issue in the future again, I will re-open it.
