Description jorge.gonzalez 2021-09-02 19:01:11 UTC
Description of problem:

Standard (GTK) user interface in fuse version 1.5.7 (included in Fedora 34) has problems when used in HiDPI displays. At least:

- Window cannot be freely scaled beyond 3x. This can be still quite small in HiDPI displays, and visibility is reduced.

- UI Widget scaling is not handled correctly, and this makes, for example, the debugger window, completely unusable.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

1.5.7

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:

- Start fuse-emulator with a ZX Spectrum TAP file, try to resize the window

- With the game running, go to the menu -> Machine -> Debugger and see the fonts mispositioned.

Expected results:

At least:

- Window resizing works to arbitrary sizes
- Debugger window is actually usable

Additional info:

- These issues are solved with version 1.6.0, released in February 2021
- fuse-emulator 1.6.0 package depends on libspectrum package version 1.5.0 and fuse-emulator-utils 1.4.3, which were released about the same date
- I have built updated RPMs of all 3 packages with minimal changes in the SPEC files, just changing the version number and providing the new sources
- The updated RPM builds run successfully without any issues, and the updated RPM packages solve the problems mentioned.

I kindly ask to consider upgrading fuse-emulator and its 2 dependencies to the latest released version for a better user experience in Fedora.

Thanks

I just found the fuse-emulkator package page at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/fuse-emulator/, and I found that it has already been considered for F35 and F36, so this issue can be dismissed.

Thanks a lot anyway for a great work.

After updating to Fedora 35 and using the new fuse version (1.6.0), the problem still exists. I'm attaching a screenshot so that the issue can be clearly identified.

Comment 4 jorge.gonzalez 2022-01-01 17:00:07 UTC
I'd like to say that this issue makes the debugger mostly unusable for tracing, since the disassembly window can't be read at all.

Comment 5 jorge.gonzalez 2022-05-22 17:28:15 UTC
After updating to Fedora 36, the issue still happens with version fuse-emulator-1.6.0-3.fc36.x86_64

Comment 6 jorge.gonzalez 2023-01-08 18:30:14 UTC
Still present after upgrading to Fedora 37, version fuse-emulator-1.6.0-4.fc37.x86_64

Comment 7 jorge.gonzalez 2023-01-08 19:03:29 UTC
Apparently just changing the following line in the .spec file solves the problem:

BuildRequires: gtk2-devel

by:

BuildRequires: gtk3-devel

With that change, everything works fine in the debugger and it is usable again. It looks that the migration to GTK3 is dead simple with this one :-)

Comment 8 jorge.gonzalez 2023-03-21 08:46:15 UTC
Hi, it's going for 2 years for fixing a problem which is absolutely trivial to fix, just replace one one in the SPEC file. I already did the beta test for you...

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 36 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 36 on 2023-05-16.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '36'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 36 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 11 jorge.gonzalez 2024-02-19 09:44:08 UTC
Still present on Fedora 39, updated on 19/02/2024

Please, any information on when this issue can be solved? It's just a one line change in the build script!!
