The windows are unmaximised but of the same size on the first workspace 5. The windows are on top of the panel The windows should not be allowed on top of the panel. It's not possible to move those windows above the panel after they've been moved away from it.

Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their distribution available. Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you. The test case doesn't work anymore, as compiz uses the existing window state correctly when restarted (see bug 200272). I'm not certain the bug is actually fixed, but as there's no reproducer, closing.
Reopening. The test case is a bit longer now: 1. Start up metacity 2. Start a terminal, maximise it 3. Switch to compiz with the desktop effects applet 4. Unmaximise window The window ends up on top of the panel.
Based on the date this bug was created, it appears to have been reported against rawhide during the development of a Fedora release that is no longer maintained.
