Description of problem: Crashes during initial molecule drawing; on restart atoms not visible Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): avogadro2-1.95.1-1.fc34 How reproducible: Same behavior on two separate machines with otherwise identical system setups (Fedora 34 KDE (X11), updates-testing enabled) Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open avogadro2 and click, then click-drag to draw connected carbon atoms 2. Avogadro2 crashes around 4-5 atoms drawn 3. On restart, clicking does not show visible atom, but Undo and atom coordinates indicate atom has been drawn Actual results: Unable to visible draw benzene Expected results: Able to draw benzene Additional info: Avogadro(1) still works as expected
Please, run avogadro2 from terminal (in Wayland) $ export QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/avogadro2 $ avogadro2 and report the crash output.
To clarify, on first start after update, the crash occurred on both machines. After that, on each start, the atoms don't display when attempting to draw the molecule (X11). I will next check behavior under Wayland.
And also on Wayland: the crash hasn't repeated, but the atoms do not display. There is no terminal output.
This bug is FIXED upstream (commits: https://github.com/OpenChemistry/avogadrolibs/pull/819/commits). Today the fix has been picked up by Debian Testing. Also, make sure to cherry-pick these two fixes too: https://github.com/OpenChemistry/avogadrolibs/pull/825/commits. They also fix important 1.95 regressions, and have already been merged into both Debian Testing and Ubuntu Jammy.
Created attachment 1863580 [details] Debian Testing patch with all 3 fixes This is the Debian Testing patch for avogadrolibs-1.95.1-8. It contains the fix for this bug (last change in the patch) and for another two regressions reported upstream.
