RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Debarshi Ray 2021-09-15 14:46:15 UTC
We now have a Toolbox-specific OCI image created out of the UBI RPMs that has a much better interactive user experience than the registry.redhat.io/rhel8/support-tools:latest image. eg., the manual pages, ping(8), fully featured coreutils, etc..

Let's default to that.

This would mean that those who need to use sosreport, will have to install it separately inside the container.

Comment 4 Scott McCarty 2021-09-15 15:16:51 UTC
Debarshi, could you please specify the exact path of the new Toolbox image for Jindrich. I believe it's "registry.access.redhat.com/ubi8/toolbox" but I need you and/or Laurie to verify that.

That's also what I know. ie., it should be:
registry.access.redhat.com/ubi8/toolbox:latest

I am waiting for Laurie to confirm that.

Comment 6 Tomas Popela 2021-09-15 17:16:31 UTC
@ajia can we please get qa_ack+ and ITM?

Comment 8 Laurie Friedman 2021-09-15 20:57:40 UTC
The new toolbox images will be in all of the following repos. I'm not sure which you want to use. The images are identical in the ubi and rhel repos for each release (i.e. 1 image pushed to 2 places). All are built with ubi base images.

For 8.5 GA:
ubi8/toolbox
rhel8/toolbox

For 9-Beta:
ubi9-beta/toolbox
rhel9-beta/toolbox

For 9.0 GA:
ubi9/toolbox
rhel9/toolbox

All "rhel" repos are in the authenticated registry: registry.redhat.io/ (authenticated)
All "ubi" repos are in both the authenticated registry and the authenticated registry: registry.redhat.io/ (authenticated) and registry.access.redhat.com (unauthenticated)

Comment 9 Tomas Popela 2021-09-16 06:01:15 UTC
@ajia we need ITM from you as well please.

Comment 12 Laurie Friedman 2021-09-16 15:41:07 UTC
@dornelas registry.redhat.io/rhel8/toolbox and registry.redhat.io/ubi8/toolbox will be identical. It is the same images released and pushed to 2 repos. This is the case for all ubi images. The the previous tool box will not be available there, although I guess they could specify an old unsupported image version.

Comment 14 Laurie Friedman 2021-09-16 20:48:59 UTC
@dornelas Yes, I meant toolbox. I fixed the comment. Thanks for noticing.

Comment 19 Alex Jia 2021-09-22 12:45:46 UTC
Using the ubi8/toolbox:latest image by default now.
