Description James Biao 2021-10-01 01:45:51 UTC
Description of problem:

Following upstream feature to enable QAT acceleration in RadosGW [1]. We would like to include this feature as supported in RHCS5 in order to be able to use it to enhance encryption and compression services by offloading the actual encryption and compression request(s) to the hardware QuickAssist accelerators, which are more efficient in terms of cost and power than general purpose CPUs for those specific compute-intensive workloads.

@tchandra can you review the ask for QAT Acceleration testing

Hi James,
just came across this and see that the reference is to a stack using the QAT driver package from 01.org.
I'm on the Intel team upstreaming QAT components into RHEL.
Just want to make sure you're aware that QAT kernel, qatlib user-space libs, qatzip and qatengine are all in RHEL (v9.0 and v8.6).
And wonder if those should also be included in RHCS?
So could be used out-of-the-box by radosgw.

Fiona

Hello Fiona,

Thanks for your attention to this bz and providing very helpful information as above. From RHCS 5, ceph cluster will be only deployed in container images. I think we may include required QAT components in RHCS 5 images. I'll pass on the information to engineering and let them decide the detailed approach to achieve this.

James

Hi Matt,
Will review the scope and plan to get QAT H/W based on Uday's inputs to support QAT.

Regards,
Veera
