Description Jeremy Linton 2021-10-07 21:08:36 UTC
Description of problem: Running on a UEFI/RPI4, but it seems likely to happen elsewhere. The GUI installer works, but once the machine is rebooted and a graphical target is started the machine boots to a blank screen. This appears to be caused by gdm failing to start because wayland doesn't yet work in these circumstances. Uncommenting the WaylandEnable=false line in /etc/gdm/custom.conf makes everything work.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 35 beta.

How reproducible: 100% on this hardware which only had a efifb.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get a RPi4+PTFT firmware in ACPI mode, install fedora
2. Alternatively consider finding an x86 with an older graphics card/framebuffer BMC/etc that only supports a raw framebuffer?

Comment 1 Jeremy Linton 2021-10-07 21:17:23 UTC
I pointed this out on IRC and there were some comments to the effect that maybe the existence of /dev/dri should be checked before trying to use wayland.

Comment 2 Jeremy Linton 2021-10-22 14:50:22 UTC
This one went away again, I've reinstalled the server image and group installed Fedora Workstation a couple of times now and it's all been working again.

Comment 3 Jeremy Linton 2022-01-11 18:29:14 UTC
The simpledrm code is landing so this should no longer be an issue. Closing.
