RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Kashyap Chamarthy 2021-11-03 15:48:01 UTC
What?
-----

Currently python3-libguestfs sub-package is in the RHEL9 CRB (code-ready
builder) repos.

However, OSP Nova (the compute project) still supports libguestfs-based
password and SSH key injection. Nova permits the following config
options[+]:

     [libvirt]
     inject_partition
     inject_password
     inject_key

(Some customers still use at least inject_partition/inject_key.)

Move the python3-libguestfs from CRB to AppStream.

[+] For docs, `grep` for the above config attributes here:
    https://docs.openstack.org/nova/latest/configuration/config.html

Why?
----

Having python3-libguestfs in RHEL9 CRB means it cannot be included in
OSP — as CRB does not have any support guarantees. However, OSP still
needs to retain python3-libguestfs for the upcoming release, OSP 17
(based on RHEL9).

Comment 1 Richard W.M. Jones 2021-11-03 16:19:42 UTC
Sorry about this one. We previously (bug 1991703) asked for this
package to be moved to CRB. That was because we didn't know it is
being used by the RHOSP layered product, specifically by openstack-nova
for file injection.

There's been some discussion about whether RHOSP will eventually deprecate
file injection, but apparently that's not going to happen yet so we need
python3-libguestfs supported in RHEL 9. The situation might be different
in RHEL 10.

Comment 2 Preston Watson 2021-11-05 20:29:03 UTC
Package has been removed from comps and added to AppStream. Changes can be seen once package passes gating

Comment 4 YongkuiGuo 2021-11-11 10:18:02 UTC
Just as comment 3, python3-libguestfs has been moved into AppStream in the latest RHEL9 nightly compose. Maybe we can close this bug.

Comment 5 Richard W.M. Jones 2021-11-11 10:25:24 UTC
Closing per comment 3 and comment 4.
