Logs showing gnome-shell crashing when starting dota 2

Description of problem:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Fedora 35 latest updates, running gnome-shell-41.1-1.fc35.x86_64 without extensions

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. steam and the game dota 2 installed
2. dota 2 start options set to "DRI_PRIME=1 LD_PRELOAD=/lib64/libSDL2-2.0.so.0 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland %command% -gl"
3. start dota 2 via steam as usual

Actual results:

Dota 2 logo shows up, the next thing the intro does not come up. Instead the whole desktop crashes.
So far the issue reproduced every time for me (tried 3 times).

Expected results:

No crashes, dota 2 starts as usual

Additional info:

This issue exists since I did a dnf system upgrade to f35 yesterday

Comment 1 Konstantin Bläsi 2021-11-07 16:18:52 UTC
no crashes with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11

Comment 2 Jonas Ådahl 2021-11-07 19:05:28 UTC
Can you attach a backtrace? E.g.

    coredumpctl gdb -r gnome-shell

then

    bt full

in the gdb prompt.

Thanks for the backtrace. I managed to reproduce with a custom test case, and posted a fix for review upstream.

Amazing response time, looking forward to test those changes. Thanks ! :)

Created a scratch build that can be tested right away. Let me know if it fixes the issue for you.

Thanks, awesome! This build fixes the crash for me :)

Installed using

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 35 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 35 on 2022-12-13.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '35'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 35 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 9 Ben Cotton 2022-12-13 15:48:16 UTC
Fedora Linux 35 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2022-12-13.

Fedora Linux 35 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux
please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
the version field.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an
active release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
