python-bitcoinlib fails to build with Python 3.11.0a2. + /usr/bin/python3 -m unittest discover ......E..........................EEE.......EE.....EE.......................................E......EE.................EEEE......E/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.eAA0fO: line 32: 560 Segmentation fault (core dumped) /usr/bin/python3 -m unittest discover For the build logs, see: https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/@python/python3.11/fedora-rawhide-x86_64/02939596-python-bitcoinlib/ For all our attempts to build python-bitcoinlib with Python 3.11, see: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.11/package/python-bitcoinlib/ Testing and mass rebuild of packages is happening in copr. You can follow these instructions to test locally in mock if your package builds with Python 3.11: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.11/ Let us know here if you have any questions. Python 3.11 is planned to be included in Fedora 37. To make that update smoother, we're building Fedora packages with all pre-releases of Python 3.11. A build failure prevents us from testing all dependent packages (transitive [Build]Requires), so if this package is required a lot, it's important for us to get it fixed soon. We'd appreciate help from the people who know this package best, but if you don't want to work on this now, let us know so we can try to work around it on our side.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 36 development cycle. Changing version to 36.
This crash affects Stream 9, F36 and rawhide. It's not related to python-bitcoinlib or python itself. The crash is inside openssl code, and it's specific to openssl 3.0. Who do we need to ping for the openssl guys to take a look?
btw, I have a workaround for this crash inside python-bitcoinlib, which avoids calling the offending function on certain cases, but even after that, some tests fail due to changes in behavior from openssl 3.0

Hello, This is the first reminder (step 3 from https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/#_package_removal_for_long_standing_ftbfs_and_fti_bugs). If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.
This is not a bug in python-bitcoinlib, it's a problem with openssl3. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2021798#c2 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2021798#c3 are still valid. I can workaround the crash and disable the rest of the failing tests, but that's not a "solution"

Hello, This is the second reminder (step 4 from https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/#_package_removal_for_long_standing_ftbfs_and_fti_bugs). If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.
Again, this is a problem with openssl3 and not in this package. I have a version that fixes the crash and removes some failing tests, but I know it's not the right solution. Do you prefer if I keep it failing until openssl problem is solved or should I push the "fix"?
Honestly, if this isn't fixed near beta freeze, I'd consider retiring the package until it is fixed. Better than shipping it uninstallable in Fedora 37.
Hello, Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok). All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 37. Thanks for taking care of it!
