Just came by to say I enthusiastically urge you to add xfce. It's perfect for a business desktop.

Comment 4 Pat Riehecky 2022-04-12 01:35:50 UTC
Adding my voice to the interest in this.

Comment 5 Mukundan Ragavan 2022-04-13 13:08:49 UTC
Thanks for the input Thomas and Pat.

I will do this in the coming weeks.

Comment 6 ed leaver 2022-04-17 02:00:18 UTC
Thanks Mukundan! Lack of XFCE - and time - are the only things preventing me from migraining to CS9. Which I need to do before FC34 EOLs. :)

Comment 7 Thomas Cameron 2022-04-17 02:27:54 UTC
Many thanks, Mukundan! I sure do appreciate it! I can't wait to adopt RHEL9 with xfce! I try to use RHEL wherever I can (as opposed to CentOS or Fedora), so having my favorite DE on RHEL will be perfect.

Comment 8 Mark Pryor 2022-04-25 17:20:42 UTC
Using this mock chroot:
centos-stream+epel-9-x86_64

grabbed the Xfce4 group SRPM set from fc35 and built it for el9.

I have finally built most of the core packages. terminal, ristretto and a bunch of plugins remain.

Assuming no issues, I expect xfce 4.16 to be available for testing within a week.

Sorry about the delay.

Comment 14 Scott Dowdle 2022-05-26 19:16:14 UTC
I'm interested in this for sure.

FEDORA-EPEL-2022-5fe886dfa9 has been submitted as an update to Fedora EPEL 9. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2022-5fe886dfa9

Comment 16 Mukundan Ragavan 2022-06-01 03:11:16 UTC
alright folks, this is done. mousepad did not build and I need to figure out what's going on. Other than that, Xfce should work as well as it does on Fedora. I tested these builds on RHEL 9 with EPEL enabled and did not notice any issues or odd behavior.

the karma for stable is high and time for stable is long - this is intentional.

test and provide feedback please.

Is there a comps.xml bug for EPEL9 xfce desktop group?

Comment 21 Mukundan Ragavan 2022-06-18 15:51:36 UTC
(In reply to Pat Riehecky from comment #20)
> Is there a comps.xml bug for EPEL9 xfce desktop group?

there isn't one. I did not have time to update comps earlier. Now, there is PR for comps.

https://pagure.io/fedora-comps/pull-request/743

Once merged, it should be possible to install xfce base packages as a group.

Comment 22 Mukundan Ragavan 2022-06-19 20:27:42 UTC
the update is on its way to stable.

xfce is now in comps.
