Description Pierre Ossman 2021-12-23 12:51:02 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #2035162 +++

Description of problem:

Thunderbird doesn't react at all when I try to drag-and-drop a link from Firefox that I want to attach to a mail.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

thunderbird-91.3.0-2.el8_4.x86_64
firefox-91.3.0-1.el8_4.x86_64

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open web page with link to file in Firefox
2. Open new mail in Thunderbird
3. Click and drag link from Firefox to new mail window

Actual results:

Nothing at all happens. If I release the mouse button a text version of the link is inserted in to the mail body.

Expected results:

Thunderbird shows the attachment drop area and attaches the file when I release the mouse button.

Additional info:

Works fine on Fedora with almost the same versions:

thunderbird-91.3.0-1.fc34.x86_64
firefox-95.0-1.fc34.x86_64

--- Additional comment from Pierre Ossman on 2021-12-23 12:50:14 UTC ---

My bad. Thunderbird 91.3.0 is broken on Fedora as well. It is Thunderbird 91.2.0 that works (at least on Fedora). Verified by downgrading.

So this might be an upstream issue.

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 34 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 34 on 2022-06-07.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '34'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 34 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 2 Pierre Ossman 2022-05-13 06:24:33 UTC
I'm afraid this issue remains in the latest Thunderbird.

It seems this got resolved in the past, then went broken again in 91.3. Here is the older bug report upstream:

Fedora Linux 36 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2023-05-16.

Fedora Linux 36 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
