There was a bug in which pop-shell would cause gnome to crash and get stuck in the activities overview, this has been fixed since November.

Personally I have this bug affecting me multiple times a day, causing me to have to log out, losing work etc.

The bug has been fixed but there have not been any pop-shell releases since.
