Description of problem: external package downgraded Version-Release number of component: 0.103.4 Status: Latest packages related to ClamAV that are available from Fedora's repositories are non-up-to-date. $ dnf -q rq --requires --resolve --archlist noarch,x86_64 --qf '%{name} %{version}' clamav |grep ^clamav | column clamav-data 0.103.4 clamav-lib 0.103.4 clamav-filesystem 0.103.4 clamav-update 0.103.4 My goal: to have clamav installed as up-to-date, which is therefore to be obtained from upstrean source, so external, then to have installed components clamd and clamav-update from Fedora repositories since theyt are not contained within that external package. Prerequisite: - No components related to ClamAV installed previously to external package acquired front https://www.clamav.net/downloads is installed. This can be ensured with 'dnf list --installed 'clam*''. Steps to Reproduce: # dnf install clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm $ dnf list --installed clam* | sed 1d clamav.x86_64 0.104.1-1 @@commandline - Once installed i ensure that there is no dependencies: $ dnf -q rq --requires clamav-0.104.1-1.x86_64 # dnf install clamd clamav-update Package Architecture Version Repository Size ================================================================================================ Installing: clamav-update x86_64 0.103.4-1.fc35 updates 97 k clamd x86_64 0.103.4-1.fc35 updates 99 k Installing dependencies: clamav-filesystem noarch 0.103.4-1.fc35 updates 22 k clamav-lib x86_64 0.103.4-1.fc35 updates 826 k libprelude x86_64 5.2.0-9.fc35 fedora 330 k Downgrading: clamav x86_64 0.103.4-1.fc35 updates 2.2 M Actual results: - clamav is downgraded - Test against conflicts: $ rpm --test -U clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm error: Failed dependencies: clamav > 0.103.4-1.fc35 conflicts with (installed) clamav-filesystem-0.103.4-1.fc35.noarch - Arrempts to reinstall external packages: # dnf -q +install clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm Error: Problem: problem with installed package clamav-filesystem-0.103.4-1.fc35.noarch - package clamav-filesystem-0.103.4-1.fc35.noarch conflicts with clamav > 0.103.4-1.fc35 provided by clamav-0.104.1-1.x86_64 - package clamav-filesystem-0.103.3-5.fc35.noarch conflicts with clamav > 0.103.3-5.fc35 provided by clamav-0.104.1-1.x86_64 - conflicting requests external package downgraded Expected results: - upstream clamav package not downgraded.
edit /etc/dnf/dnf.conf and add exclude=clamav* for example [1] [1] [main] gpgcheck=1 installonly_limit=4 clean_requirements_on_remove=False best=False skip_if_unavailable=True deltarpm=0 fastestmirror=1 exclude=clamav*
Executed: # dnf remove 'clam*' # nano /etc/dnf/dnf.conf ** exclude=clamav* to [main] ** # dnf install clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm Last metadata expiration check: 3:33:14 ago on Tue Jan 4 15:04:21 2022. No match for argument: clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm Error: Unable to find a match I suspect DNF to work as intended since that RPM package is a march against "exclude=clamav*". I guess clamav-0.104.1.linux.x86_64.rpm must be included.
Sorry I don't have time only clamav-0.103.4 is available on Fedora , clamav-0.104.1 use another way to build, so was not yet migrated . or you use 104.1 from external or you use 0.103.4 from Fedora
"I don't have time"; I can believe that. "clamav-0.104.1 use another way to build"; that what i was leading to conclude. What a shame. "or you use (...)"; that i could deduce it. Therefore it still remains that using external v. 104.1 won't allow the use of components clamd, clamav-update and clamtk among others, from Fedora. We may close not to waste time.
Ricky, I am not really sure what the nature of your request is: ClamAV 0.104.1 is not yet in Fedora, it's being tracked via bug #1995855 already; the 0.104 release switches from classical GNU make to cmake, which still requires work. Using ClamAV from a foreign source and/or third-party repository might work or might not work (including any variation in between), however support for third-party ClamAV packages possibly colliding with the ClamAV packages in the Fedora repository is out of target of a bug report, sorry.
Hell. #1995855; pleased to read it. Your interpretation seemed to enforce Sergio's one, which had already sound valid to me.
