Description Paul Howarth 2022-01-06 09:50:34 UTC
Please branch and build perl-CryptX for EPEL-9.

This is needed for perl-Crypt-CBC and everything that depends on it.

In my testing I had to build using the f35 branch rather than rawhide because the latter includes an incompatible test change for an updated Math::BigInt.

Comment 1 Paul Howarth 2022-01-13 18:51:59 UTC
Hi Petr, will you be OK to do this one once its dependencies are ready?

Comment 2 Petr Pisar 2022-01-14 08:43:27 UTC
Yes, I will handle this package.

Comment 3 Paul Howarth 2022-02-04 13:17:16 UTC
Hi Petr,

just FYI, libtomcrypt is built now.

Comment 4 Xavier Bachelot 2022-02-04 13:50:57 UTC
Hi Paul,

Petr and I have been talking about possibly using the bundled libtomcrypt for perl-CryptX. Or to be fair, I've been advocating using the bundled libtomcrypt to get back ECC support and Petr expressed a lack of time to maintain this package, which I completely understand.
See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1549877

So far, I've been trying to use the bundled libtomcrypt while keeping the unbundled libtommath, but that confuses the test suite and I did not had more time to look into it. I believe using both bundled libtomcrypt and libtommath should be easier, but, well, bundling is not on the list of things I usually am fond about.

Happy to read your and other people thoughts on the matter.

Regards,
Xavier

Hi Xavier,

if you're happy to maintain perl-CryptX and its bundled libraries, I think that's the way to go. It doesn't matter much from my own personal PoV since my own packages work OK with the unbundled versions but given that libtomcrypt cannot keep up with CryptX, it would seem that the path of least resistance is to use what CryptX uses upstream. It would also allow me to enable ed25519 support in perl-Net-SSH-Perl.

Cheers, Paul.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 36 development cycle.
Changing version to 36.
