Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Robert Scheck 2022-01-13 02:44:11 UTC
Description of problem:
We would like to be able to pass international domain names to lynx in scripts, however various "modern" international domain names require IDNA 2008 support, such as "straße.de". As lynx 2.9.0-dev gained upstream support, which has landed in Fedora, we would like to request either a specific backport of the IDNA 2008 functionality or a rebase to lynx-2.9.0-dev.10.1.fc36.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
lynx-2.8.9-18.el9
lynx-2.9.0-dev.10.1.fc36

Actual results:
No IDNA 2008 support in lynx.

Expected results:
IDNA 2008 support in lynx.

I do not think we have a business justification for introducing this feature into RHEL-9 after Beta. If "We" in your statement refers to a customer of Red Hat, please open a customer case.

Comment 2 Robert Scheck 2022-01-13 12:58:24 UTC
Yes, we refers to us as a Red Hat customer and partner. I've meanwhile cross-filed case 03123979 at the Red Hat customer portal with our business justification.

Comment 12 Michal Sekletar 2022-01-24 12:57:16 UTC
I am against introducing development snapshot of lynx in RHEL-9 without a good justification. Support for IDNA 2008 is not important enough on its own to warrant the rebase. However, we acknowledge the feature request by the customer and thus we have decided to backport IDNA 2008 support to the currently shipped lynx version. It seems that backport should be fairly small and isolated.

Comment 13 Robert Scheck 2022-01-24 13:04:06 UTC
That's fine for us (we're the customer). The rebase was just a suggestion and thus also marked with a question mark, given I wasn't sure what's better. Thank you :)
