RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Steve Traylen 2022-01-25 08:14:32 UTC
Description of problem:

fwupd-1.7.1-1 contains the file:

   cat /lib/modules-load.d/fwupd-redfish.conf
   ipmi-si
   ipmi-devintf

and this results in:

  # journalctl -f -u systemd-modules-load.service
  -- Logs begin at Fri 2022-01-14 10:30:00 CET. --
  Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd-modules-load[663]: Module 'msr' is builtin
  Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd-modules-load[663]: Failed to insert 'ipmi_si': No such device
  Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.

Because on my virtual machine there is indeed no ipmi device.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

fwupd-1.7.1-1

How reproducible:
every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install fwupd-1.7.1-1
2. reboot
3. systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service

● systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-modules-load.service; static; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri 2022-01-14 10:30:02 CET; 1 weeks 3 days ago
     Docs: man:systemd-modules-load.service(8)
           man:modules-load.d(5)
 Main PID: 663 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd-modules-load[663]: Module 'msr' is builtin
Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd-modules-load[663]: Failed to insert 'ipmi_si': No such device

Jan 14 10:30:02 bag8.example.ch systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.

Expected results:

systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service
should be clean

Additional info:

Work around:

touch /etc/modules-load.d/fwupd-redfish.conf

Comment 1 Steve Traylen 2022-01-25 08:30:01 UTC
Should have been CentOS 8 stream.

Comment 2 Richard Hughes 2022-01-25 16:45:35 UTC
Either way, we pushed 1.7.4 into RHEL 8 and RHEL 9, so we should be good here. Can you verify with those builds? The rpms are available here too if that helps: http://people.redhat.com/rhughes/packages/fwupd/

Comment 3 Alex Iribarren 2022-01-27 10:01:06 UTC
This build seems to fix the issue, at least on CS8. When will it be pushed to Stream?

Comment 4 Richard Hughes 2022-01-27 13:11:02 UTC
> When will it be pushed to Stream?

No idea I'm afraid.

Comment 5 Eirik Fuller 2022-02-06 22:21:10 UTC
Changing Product based on comment 1.
