Description Mattias Ellert 2022-02-01 10:36:00 UTC
Description of problem:

Branch and build gfal2 for EPEL 9.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Latest, I guess.

How reproducible:

Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to build somthing that build requires gfal2-devel for EPEL 9

Actual results:
No matching package to install: 'gfal2-devel'

Expected results:
Successful installation of gfal2-devel.

Additional info:

The build-dependencies of gfal2 ares mostly available in EPEL 9, with the exceptions of

DEBUG util.py:444: No matching package to install: 'pugixml-devel'
DEBUG util.py:444: No matching package to install: 'srm-ifce-devel >= 1.23.1'

(xrootd was just recently added to the epel-testing repo in EPEL 9)

For pugixml-devel, there is a request for an EPEL 9 build already (bug #2035854). In this ticket the maintainer is asking for a co-maintainer to do EPEL builds - so you might have to volunteer there to get a dependency into EPEL 9.

Regarding srm-ifce-devel, you have disabled the build of the SRM plugin in rawhide. Is this something you also plan to do for EPEL 9? In which case this missing build dep is not a problem. If you plan to build the SRM plugin for EPEL 9 let me know, since I then would have to branch and build CGSI-gSOAP for EPEL 9 since it is a dependency of srm-ifce. I didn't do it so far since in rawhide srm-ifce is the only user of CGSI-gSOAP and srm-ifce is not used by anything.

Hello Mattias,

Thank you for looking into it.

So far, we have not taken a decision yet on CS9 and EPEL9. It might be that SRM plugin will be requested for CS9, in which case we have to bring it back, together with the `srm-ifce` dependency.

Regarding `pugixml`, unfortunately I cannot sign up to become a co-maintainer due to time constraints. Since `pugixml` is only briefly used and there is a build definition to disable it already (-D), I would rather modify the specfile to exclude `pugixml` from `fc36` or higher. In Gfal2, `pugixml` is used to read an BDII XML file produced by FTS. As there's no FTS for CS9, this feature is also not needed.

Cheers,
Mihai

I forgot to add previously: the build definition to disable the `pugixml` use is -DMDS_WITHOUT_CACHE

I have built CGSI-gSOAP for EPEL 9.

srm-ifce can now be built if you decide you need it. Scratch build:
