RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description serenity645-joe1@yahoo.ca 2022-02-08 15:34:08 UTC
Yesterday I ran dnf update. Centos was upgraded from 4.18.0-147.5.1.el8_1.x86_64
Reboot failed to restart multiple times.

From journalctl :

Feb 07 13:12:55 locutus kernel: Linux version 4.18.0-358.el8.x86_64 (mockbuild.centos.org) (gcc version 8.5.0 20210514 (Red Hat 8.5.0-7) (GCC)) #1 SMP Mon Jan 10 13:11:20 UTC 2022
Feb 07 13:12:55 locutus kernel: Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=(hd0,msdos1)/vmlinuz-4.18.0-358.el8.x86_64 root=/dev/mapper/cl_locutus_ssd-root ro crashkernel=auto resume=/dev/mapper/cl_locutus_ssd-swap rd.lvm.lv=cl_locutus_ssd/root rd.lvm.lv=cl_locutus_ssd/swap rhgb quiet

Feb 07 13:13:03 locutus systemd-modules-load[761]: Failed to insert 'ipmi_si': No such device
Feb 07 13:13:04 locutus systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Feb 07 13:13:04 locutus systemd[1]: systemd-modules-load.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
Feb 07 13:13:04 locutus systemd[1]: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.

Workaround (from centos.org forum) :

I created /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ipmi.conf with:
blacklist ipmi_si
blacklist ipmi_devintf
blacklist ipmi_msghandler
blacklist ipmi_ssif
blacklist ipmi_watchdog
blacklist ipmi_poweroff
blacklist acpi_ipmi
blacklist ibmaem
blacklist ibmpex

looks like an issue with fwupd?

[root@cosa-devsh ~]# grep -r ipmi /usr/lib/modules-load.d/
/usr/lib/modules-load.d/fwupd-redfish.conf:ipmi-si
/usr/lib/modules-load.d/fwupd-redfish.conf:ipmi-devintf
[root@cosa-devsh ~]# rpm -qf /usr/lib/modules-load.d/fwupd-redfish.conf
fwupd-1.7.1-1.el8.x86_64
[root@cosa-devsh ~]#
