RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Vikramsingh Patil 2022-02-11 15:08:28 UTC
Description of problem:

Brasero cannot burn BluRay disks (BD-R) in RHEL-7.9

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Brasero 3.12.2-5

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to Burn a BluRay Disk (BD-R) in RHEL-7.9
2.
3.

Actual results:

Brasero does not burn the BluRay DVD (BD-R)

Expected results:

Brasero should burn BluRay DVD (BD-R)

Additional info:

Below is the information provided by cu.

---------------------
With RHEL7.9 version of brasero we're limited to burning BD-RE only, but would need BD-R too.

According to the change log of brasero, BD-R issue has been fixed for RHEL8, but not for RHEL7,
although the brasero version 3.12.2-5 is the same:

RHEL7:

https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/brasero/3.12.2-5.el7/x86_64/fd431d51/package

2018-06-04 Richard Hughes <rhughes> - 3.12.2-5
	- Update to 3.12.2
	- Resolves: #1569810

From <https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/brasero/3.12.2-5.el7/x86_64/fd431d51/package-changelog>

RHEL8:

2021-09-10 David King <dking> - 3.12.2-5
	- Fix BD-R media flags

From <https://access.redhat.com/downloads/content/brasero/3.12.2-5.el8/x86_64/fd431d51/package-changelog>

---------------------

As per the above update the fix has been released for RHEL-8 but cu wants to get the fix backported to RHEL-7.9 as well

@bmilar will you take look at this and grant qa_ack+?

Comment 7 Bohdan Milar 2022-07-14 11:08:34 UTC
I try to test this issue.
I have brasero-3.12.2-5.el7_9.1 on RHEL 7.9.
Brasero correctly detects BD-R/BD-RE: "Blank disc (Writable Blu-ray disc)" vs "Blank BD-RE Disc"

My reproducer:
1. Have computer with Blu-ray writer.
2. Start brasero.
3. Project -> New Project -> New Data Project
4. Edit -> Add Files
5. Select some existing file or directory with read permissions (e.g. /etc/passwd)
6. Insert BD-R to the Blu-ray writer.
7. Click the most bottom toggle button "Image File: ..." (left of the "Burn..." button)
8. Select "Blank BD-R Disc: ..." from the pop-up menu.
9. Click the "Burn..." button.

Then I can see a small window titled by the name of the Blu-ray writer.
It contains Burning speed toggle button with correct values to be selected (e.g. speed max 4.0x for BD-R 4x).

Question:
Is the described procedure enough to prove the requested funcionality or is it necessary to physically write the data to the BD-R media?

Comment 31 Bohdan Milar 2023-01-17 11:47:59 UTC
Tested yesterday with brasero-3.12.2-5.el7_9.1
I used my reproducer described in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2053594#c7

BD-R was correctly recognized and the content (data project of about 24.5 GB) was successfully written.
