Affected version Fedora 36 (pre-Beta) gnome-shell-42~alpha-3.fc36.x86_64 Does this issue appear in XOrg and/or Wayland Bug summary After the upgrade from F35 to F36 (branched), the default animated wallpaper from F35 that was set as a system wallpaper stopped working and black solid colour was shown instead. I tried to change the wallpaper using Settings and realized that no animated wallpapers can be shown. Simple wallpapers can be used without any issues. The following error is displayed by journalctl -ef anytime the attempt is made to switch the wallpaper to the animated wallpaper. This bug has also been reported to upstream as https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/5074 I would like to propose this as a Final Blocker so this is will be used for tracking purposes.
Proposed as a Blocker for 36-final by Fedora user lruzicka using the blocker tracking app because: I am proposing this as a Final blocker, because it violates the following criterion: Artwork The proposed final Fedora artwork must be included and used as the background on release-blocking desktops. All Fedora artwork visible in critical path actions on release-blocking desktops must be consistent with the proposed final theme. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_36_Final_Release_Criteria#Artwork
Discussed during the 2022-02-14 blocker review meeting: [0] The decision to classify this bug as an "AcceptedBlocker (Final)" was made as we already have #2052654 as a Beta Blocker tracker for "36 backgrounds not yet present". The Fedora 36 backgrounds are animated (they're checked into git already) so this bug would stop them working, so we can simply consider this bug as blocking that tracker. This makes it effectively a blocker, as blocker status is transitive. [0] https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-blocker-review/2022-02-14/f36-blocker-review.2022-02-14-17.01.txt
This bug doesn't need its own blocker status since an accepted blocker depends on it. That was what I meant by that conclusion :)
The animated wallpapers are working again in the last update of F36.
Do you know what update? Are you sure it's one that is in stable?
