Description of problem: When doing a kickstart-based installation using Fedora-Server-dvd-x86_64-35-1.2.iso the following "important" or "helpful" packages can't be included in the kickstart's %packages section due to them missing from the installation media: dnf-utils, nano, prefixdevname, setools-console, tuned, zsh The package names are descriptive but I'll provide a brief rationale below for consideration to include them. Please add some or all of them to the DVD ISO as appropriate. * dnf-utils - provides helpful dnf utilities and are frequently used. * nano - Fedora default editor should be part of the installation media. * prefixdevname - important to have available from the get-go to have NICs named consistently. A minor issue here is that the package is currently missing altogether from Fedora but that is being discussed at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2054621. If made available for Fedora then should be made available in the installation medias as well. * setools-console - sometimes helpful SELinux utilities, this is perhaps the least helpful package of the ones discussed here but might be worth adding. * tuned - I'd consider this an essential package so that proper performance tuning is available right after installation. * zsh - widely used shell which should be available during installation. Thanks.
Setting version to 36 since it's too late to change 35 media.
It's more of an RFE than a bug. And it does not affect the functionality according to the technical specification and release criteria (and as specified in the problem description). Server WG needs to decide if a potential change is reasonable and feasible this late in the F36 release cycle. It is probably worth treating this with the F37 release circle.
Server Working Group agreed to deal with that in the Fedora 37 release cycle in connection with a planned review of the Server media composition (with a noticably change possibly delayed to F38 if the review process becomes too extensive).
Thanks for looking into, much appreciated. I fully agree this is more an RFE than a bug and definitely nothing urgent so either F37 or F38 sound perfectly fine. I've discussed with prefixdevname developer (Michal Sekletar) off-list and he tentatively said that he might be able to submit it for inclusion for Fedora in a not too distant future. I'll provide a quick update here later should that move forward at some point. Thanks.
Server Working Group created an issue (#88) and rescheduled for F38 due to resources and connection with further problems of the installation media
