Description of problem:

Please branch and build pdsh in epel9

Comment 1 Trey Dockendorf 2022-04-06 16:44:19 UTC
Right now pdsh depends on genders and Slurm for current builds. I've pushed genders build to epel9 testing, and requested Slurm builds for epel9 via #2072632

Comment 2 Neil Hanlon 2023-01-08 19:29:14 UTC
Hi Trey,

I stumbled onto this as a Rocky Linux user was asking about pdsh. It looks like slurm was added just before the holidays, and I was able to build the pdsh rawhide branch against centos stream+epel.

Please let me know if there's anything I can help with. I am not yet in the packagers group but am happy to provide testing/feedback in the meantime.

Best,
Neil

I take that back, the mock build fails due to missing `libnodeupdown-devel` and `torque-devel`, it seems.

Comment 4 Tom "spot" Callaway 2023-01-11 18:53:07 UTC
The epel9 branch exists, so if/when the dependencies are built, this could go forward.

Alternately, if pdsh without nodeupdown or torque support is useful, we could disable those options in the EPEL9 build. I'm reluctant to do this, because I think users will expect equivalent functionality to Fedora (and older EPEL builds).

Comment 5 Neil Hanlon 2023-01-11 19:24:29 UTC
I agree with respect to expecting the previous functionality.

I am going to try and find some time to take a look at what's involved in getting whatsup (libnodeupdown) and torque built on EPEL9 (and later, EPEL8) and probably put it up into a copr for now.

Comment 6 Trey Dockendorf 2023-01-11 21:33:49 UTC
If run into issues with Torque, I'd be okay removing that functionality in all EPEL/Fedora builds of pdsh with some kind of announcement. I don't even think Adaptive Computing is actively developing on Torque anymore, at least it was a dead project several years ago before we moved to Slurm.

Comment 7 Neil Hanlon 2023-02-22 03:24:18 UTC
whatsup[1] and torque[2] build fine against their respective buildroots.

torque-devel is available in EL8 base repositories, so it's only needed in EPEL9.

whatsup also required libibcommon[3] which excludes s390x. This built fine from rawhide

with all these available, I was able to get pdsh built for EPEL8 and EPEL9 [4]

It seems the reasonable course of action is to get these into EPEL in reverse order, i.e.

torque      (EPEL 9 only ) -> whatsup
libibcommon (EPEL 8 and 9) -> whatsup

noting here that I have picked up both whatsup and genders, which were recently orphaned.

Whatsup should be in EPEL by tomorrow, so @treydock - this ticket can be done shortly :)

Comment 9 Neil Hanlon 2023-05-09 17:02:56 UTC
Hi @treydock ,

Would you be able to branch and build pdsh for EPEL 9? All dependencies have been filled at this time and it successfully builds[1] using the current rawhide branch.

I'm also happy to help comaintain this package if you'd like.

Best,
Neil

Hi Trey,

Would you be able to branch and build for EPEL9? I'm happy to co-maintain with you, too.

Best,
Neil
