Description Miro Hrončok 2022-04-05 09:54:17 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok).

Your package (python-pytest-shutil) Fails To Install in Fedora 37:

can't install python3-pytest-shutil:
  - nothing provides python3.10dist(path-py) needed by python3-pytest-shutil-1.7.0-14.fc36.noarch

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-37-x86_64 --disablerepo='*' --enablerepo=local install python3-pytest-shutil

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

Comment 1 Miro Hrončok 2022-04-10 12:13:17 UTC
Apparently, the project was renamed in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/python-path/c/41a28262dc799c5e702f3716496e04252d2d0882?branch=rawhide

Patching/sedding the requirement should do.

Comment 2 Miro Hrončok 2022-04-10 12:15:23 UTC
Upstream commits:

https://github.com/man-group/pytest-plugins/commit/71b015a351d61329005ddff2c33b268451df6eec (typo, no meaningful commit message)
https://github.com/man-group/pytest-plugins/commit/e9fc21e195502263f5b5df2a6703550c58ead2c1 (fixes the typo in unrelated commit)

Comment 3 Dan Radez 2022-04-11 13:58:39 UTC
fyi, python-path.py renamed upstream to python-path in 2019 iirc.
We were sorely behind on python-path updates because of it.

would it have been better to continue to provide python-path.py or was it fine update the name and let it propagate to other packages?

Comment 4 Miro Hrončok 2022-04-11 21:33:25 UTC
It is never OK to provide Python dist provides artificially. The provides generator reads Python metadata for good reasons.

It would have been better to coordinate this update with the dependent packages. This is not the only one.

$ repoquery -q --repo=rawhide{,-source} --whatrequires 'python3.10dist(path-py)' --whatrequires 'python3dist(path-py)'
python-cherrypy-0:18.6.1-2.fc36.src
python3-Pyped-0:1.4-23.fc36.noarch
python3-pytest-shutil-0:1.7.0-14.fc36.noarch
