Would be great if Fedora's maintainer of MC included the patch for this bug: https://midnight-commander.org/ticket/4374 The commit fixing it: https://github.com/MidnightCommander/mc/commit/34d3726b79d35481e96f5fabe8e34e3439e6d9d9 I'm a stupid idiot who doesn't want to learn shell, git, RPM spec, so please do it instead yourself. MC 4.8.29 might release in half a year and I don't want this feature to be broken all this time. Thank you!
No problems, happy to help! At least we will test the patch before new upstream version is released.

FEDORA-2022-50252ec95c has been pushed to the Fedora 36 stable repository. If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.
This fix unfortunately didn't work as it's turned out that the bug is not only in MC but in the gnulib library that MC uses as well. Andrew Borodin has posted a new patch but the old one is still required. https://midnight-commander.org/ticket/4374#comment:18 I don't want to reopen this bug report and I'll leave it to you whether to release a new update.
