Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Jessica Hanley 2022-06-09 22:27:48 UTC
Description of problem:

If one attempts to clone an unmanaged host and then selects a compute resource, the compute resource's tabs will not appear, and Satellite will show a spinning circle at the top of the page.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Satellite 6.9 and 6.10

How reproducible:

100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. click on the Hosts menu
2. click on "All Hosts"
3. click on the drop-down arrow to the far-right of an unmanaged host (I tested this with a virtual host)
4. change the "Deploy On" field to a compute resource (I tested this with VMware)

Actual results:

The "Virtual Machine" and "Operating System" tabs fail to appear, and a spinning circle appears at the top of the page. If I click the blue Submit button at the bottom of the page, a placeholder for the new host is created in Satellite, but no new host is provisioned.

Expected results:

The "Virtual Machine" and "Operating System" tabs should either appear, or an error message should appear telling me that I can only clone managed hosts.

Hello,

I'm not sure I fully understand the reproducing steps. If the host is unmanaged, the host form does not display the Deploy On field at all. Did you first turn that into managed host somehow? Perhaps record a video or add a screenshot.

The virtual machine tab can be loading if the related compute resource (selected as deploy on) takes a long time to reply. It would be very handy to also capture production.log with a debug log level from when you perform the reproducing steps.

On the customer's Satellite 6.9 server, and on both my 6.9 and 6.10 Satellite servers, the "Deploy On" field does appear when I try to clone a host, even if the host is not managed. I will attach a screenshot of what this looks like (from my 6.9 server).

Cloning unmanaged host means you're trying to create a new host that will be managed (since the host creation means you're creating managed host). So showing the Deploy On is correct. I though also see the spinner not disappearing in this case for some reason. Probably some AJAX request fails in this scenario and then the whole JS stack is broken, so selecting the compute resource does not work.

Upon review of our valid but aging backlog the Satellite Team has concluded that this Bugzilla does not meet the criteria for a resolution in the near term, and are planning to close in a month. This message may be a repeat of a previous update and the bug is again being considered to be closed. If you have any concerns about this, please contact your Red Hat Account team. Thank you.

Comment 7 Brad Buckingham 2024-02-07 18:16:21 UTC
Thank you for your interest in Red Hat Satellite. We have evaluated this request, and while we recognize that it is a valid request, we do not expect this to be implemented in the product in the foreseeable future. This is due to other priorities for the product, and not a reflection on the request itself. We are therefore closing this out as WONTFIX. If you have any concerns about this feel free to contact your Red Hat Account Team. Thank you.
