Default document-root directive is server.document-root = server_root + "/htdocs" Desired document-root directive should be server.document-root = server_root + "/lighttpd" Currently, after install, visiting localhost will display error 404, as /var/www/htdocs does not exist. Default page is instead located in /var/www/lighttpd. This is similar to 1201056. Why is this important? New lighttpd users who do not yet understand how lighttpd configuration works can find this a difficult problem to get past. Providing working configuration can provide a "learning by example" experience instead of the unwelcoming "learning by googling solutions to problems which other people do not seem to have".
