@Vít Ondruch are you still working on this? I was expecting updates with Fedora 37, but it's the same version as it was 6 months ago in Fedora 36. I would be very happy if you could accelerate the development schedule for this.

Comment 18 Philipp Trulson 2025-02-23 12:47:36 UTC
Hey everyone, what's the status on this, is this package (or the whole Vagrant stack) abandoned? There have been 7 new releases since 2.3.4, 2.3.4 itself was released in 2022! It would be nice to have a more up-to-date stack here.

Vagrant stack is not entirely abandoned, but it is low priority and we would welcome some help. Also, the license change [1] have not made the situation easier. Basically 2.4.0+ is no go for Fedora [2] 🤷

Comment 20 Jarek Prokop 2025-03-05 15:13:01 UTC
Latest permissible release is 2.3.7, as Vít noted, due to the license of new releases. Also correctly noted that it is low priority.

If there is some feature/bug-fix that would help and is not in currently packaged 2.3.4, but available in 2.3.7, we can start looking at that.

The newer version are a no-go to even look at (kind of metaphorically speaking) until at least late 2027 and even then it probably should go through lawyer review what we can even do.

Also @Vít, would it make sense to disable this monitoring and maybe replace it with an open BZ ticket to take a look at vagrant update to 2.4.0 once the 4 years since release have gone past?
Doesn't make sense to me to monitor releases of latest versions if we can do exactly nothing with it in Fedora.

Well, with Hashicorp being bought by IBM, the question is what is the future of Vagrant? The repository does not look active. IOW I don't think changing monitoring is worth of the effort.

Comment 22 Philipp Trulson 2025-03-06 16:07:02 UTC
Thanks for the quick replies guys! I completely forgot about the license change, Vagrant seems to be one of the few projects that were not forked yet.

To be fair there seem to be no critical features in 2.3.5-2.3.7. Guess I'll switch to the upstream RPM package then for the time being.src.f

Comment 28 echo 2025-08-31 02:22:31 UTC
Just an FYI, the currently packaged vagrant version (v2.3.4) does not support architecture flags which can lead to incorrect box architectures being downloaded. Not sure what version those flags became a thing but just something to be aware of.

IMO, I think it might be worth looking into the retirement of this package which will help direct users to the upstream RPM package avoiding this issues.
