Description of problem: When installing thunar in the default Gnome installation the dependency for tumbler is missing (it doesn’t get installed). Thunar therefore isn’t able to display thumbnails unless (example: picture xyz) has been opened manually before. Manually installing tumbler fixes the problem but shouldn’t be required! Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I encountered this problem with Fedora 36 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install F36 2. Install thunar (the file manager) Actual results: No thumbnails are getting created in thunar file manager Expected results: Thumbnails are created automatically Additional info: Manually installing the package tumbler fixes the problem but shouldn't be required. Therefore, tumbler should be added as a dependency for thunar by default.
If the missing dependency is the problem, dnf cannot do much. Re-assigning to Thunar component.
I will fix this.
The problem still exists in F37. liveuser@localhost-live ~]$ sudo dnf install thunar Fedora 37 - x86_64 14 MB/s | 64 MB 00:04 Fedora 37 openh264 (From Cisco) - x86_64 1.2 kB/s | 2.5 kB 00:02 Fedora Modular 37 - x86_64 2.9 MB/s | 3.0 MB 00:01 Fedora 37 - x86_64 - Updates 9.4 MB/s | 14 MB 00:01 Fedora Modular 37 - x86_64 - Updates 1.9 MB/s | 3.7 MB 00:01 Dependencies resolved. ================================================================================ Package Architecture Version Repository Size ================================================================================ Installing: Thunar x86_64 4.16.11-2.fc37 fedora 1.5 M Installing dependencies: exo x86_64 4.16.4-2.fc37 fedora 465 k garcon x86_64 4.16.1-6.fc37 fedora 244 k libdbusmenu x86_64 16.04.0-20.fc37 fedora 134 k libdbusmenu-gtk3 x86_64 16.04.0-20.fc37 fedora 40 k libxfce4ui x86_64 4.16.1-3.fc37 fedora 296 k libxfce4util x86_64 4.16.0-6.fc37 fedora 192 k xfce4-panel x86_64 4.16.5-1.fc37 fedora 1.0 M xfconf x86_64 4.16.0-8.fc37 fedora 198 k Transaction Summary ================================================================================ Install 9 Packages Total download size: 4.1 M Installed size: 20 M
The problem still exists in F38. Verified with the download of the F38 wallpapers. The one wallpaper that has been opened has a thumbnail after opening whereas the other one that hasn't been opened yet does't have a thumbnail. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see the version field. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an active release. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
Thank you for the update! The fix in post #5 worked and is already implemented in the current version of F38.
