Description tenferenzu 2022-08-16 05:51:42 UTC
Description of problem: When installing thunar in the default Gnome installation the dependency for tumbler is missing (it doesn’t get installed). Thunar therefore isn’t able to display thumbnails unless (example: picture xyz) has been opened manually before. Manually installing tumbler fixes the problem but shouldn’t be required!

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): I encountered this problem with Fedora 36

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install F36
2. Install thunar (the file manager)

Actual results: No thumbnails are getting created in thunar file manager

Expected results: Thumbnails are created automatically

Additional info: Manually installing the package tumbler fixes the problem but shouldn't be required. Therefore, tumbler should be added as a dependency for thunar by default.

Comment 1 Marek Blaha 2022-08-16 06:58:13 UTC
If the missing dependency is the problem, dnf cannot do much. Re-assigning to Thunar component.

Comment 2 Mukundan Ragavan 2022-08-17 00:02:07 UTC
I will fix this.

Comment 3 tenferenzu 2022-11-18 14:30:40 UTC
The problem still exists in F37.

The problem still exists in F38. Verified with the download of the F38 wallpapers. The one wallpaper that has been opened has a thumbnail after opening whereas the other one that hasn't been opened yet does't have a thumbnail.

this should fix the issue

Comment 6 Ben Cotton 2023-04-25 18:25:07 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 36 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 36 on 2023-05-16.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '36'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 36 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 7 Ludek Smid 2023-05-25 19:30:50 UTC
Fedora Linux 36 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2023-05-16.

Fedora Linux 36 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux
please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
the version field.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an
active release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Thank you for the update! The fix in post #5 worked and is already implemented in the current version of F38.
