Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Dave Wysochanski 2022-08-25 20:27:48 UTC
Document URL:
Somewhat TBD but I think this probably is the best location:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/9/html/configuring_and_using_network_file_services/exporting-nfs-shares_configuring-and-using-network-file-services

The other possibility is somewhere in here:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/9/html/managing_file_systems/index

Section Number and Name:

Describe the issue:
The NFS team intends to have limited re-export support of NFS shares supported in an upcoming RHEL9 release (current target is RHEL9.2). We need to document this a bit in our official documentation.

Suggestions for improvement:

Additional information:
Other reference information that may be of use:
- kernel documentation (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2006399) though this file is inside an kernel-doc RPM so it may not be as accessible
- a kbase: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/6973264

Comment 1 Dave Wysochanski 2022-09-23 14:27:13 UTC
Cut pasting from previous kernel-doc bug

Comment 2 Dave Wysochanski 2022-09-28 13:13:19 UTC
Please note in the documentation for this feature that NFS4.0 is not supported. For explanation of why, see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2121571#c10

Comment 3 Dave Wysochanski 2022-11-16 20:32:20 UTC
I think we should make it clear this is a "Technology Preview" feature [1][2], and document limitations and pitfalls where possible.

Comment 5 Dave Wysochanski 2022-11-17 18:36:08 UTC
Note that RHEL8 already has a RHEL-only patch to throw a "Tech Preview" warning if someone uses reexport, for more info see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1972229
