Description Juan Orti 2022-09-19 08:21:02 UTC
Description of problem:
In a new RHV setup that only has the Blank template, it is not possible to create a new template.

The make template dialog does not close when clicking in OK and no error is displayed in the UI.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ovirt-engine-4.5.2.5-0.1.el8ev.noarch

How reproducible:
Always. Happens in the customer environment and I've reproduced it in other two different environments.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install a new RHV environment with latest version ovirt-engine-4.5.2.5-0.1.el8ev.noarch

2. No template other than the Blank template should exist.

3. Create a VM and select "Make template".

4. Give the template a name and click OK.

Actual results:
Nothing happens. The make template dialog doesn't close and the template is not created.

There's nothing logged in engine.log nor in ui.log. The web browser console also doesn't log any error.

Expected results:
Template created as expected.

Additional info:
I was able to workaround the issue by inserting a fake template directly in the database as described in here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2100812#c7

then, in the make template dialog check and uncheck the box "Create as a Template Sub-Version".

After you have created some templates, the issue doesn't happen any more.

Hi Juan,

I didn't succeed to reproduce the issue. Neither on 4.5.2, nor on the latest master.

Are there other details that may affect the result? Cluster compatibility version, the VM parameters? Can you please attach the logs, even if you see nothing important in them?

Shmuel

I did reproduce couple times on various setups. But I believe Lucia did some changes recently in this area that might have fixed it. I can't confirm though as I never figured out the right preconditions.

Yes, Lucia says that's exactly the bug she has fixed recently. So it's worth to try to reproduce it with a recent build.

I followed the reproduction steps and expected template was created.

Verified in ovirt-engine-4.5.3.2-1.el8ev.noarch
