Description of problem: See the upstream bug for description: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-maps/-/issues/491 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-maps-43.0-1.fc37.x86_64 How reproducible: Sometimes (40-50%), especially when trying to look for remote locations Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start Maps. 2. Type a location into the search bar (pick up something quite remote, three or four states away) and start the search. 3. Maps crashes. Actual results: Maps sometimes crash when looking up locations. Expected results: Maps should never crash when looking up locations. Additional info: This is to track the bug in the Blocker process.
Proposed as a Blocker and Freeze Exception for 37-final by Fedora user lruzicka using the blocker tracking app because: I am proposing this because it might violate the Basic Functionality of a preinstalled application.
I went ahead and backported libsoup upstream MR 310 that's supposed to fix this https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/libsoup3/c/b5b41958f7185aa8e52a9f6da5d8dba4e0b691cc?branch=f37
FEDORA-2022-094ef88915 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 37. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2022-094ef88915
Discussed during the 2022-09-26 blocker review meeting: [0] The decision to classify this bug as an "AcceptedBlocker (Final)" was made as this is agreed to be a violation of the requirement that all apps installed by default on x86_64 Workstation "withstand a basic functionality test", as we consider "flying to a new location" a pretty basic function of a Maps app. [0] https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-blocker-review/2022-09-26/f37-blocker-review.2022-09-26-16.01.txt
FEDORA-2022-094ef88915 has been pushed to the Fedora 37 testing repository. Soon you'll be able to install the update with the following command: `sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2022-094ef88915` You can provide feedback for this update here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2022-094ef88915 See also https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Updates_Testing for more information on how to test updates.
I tried to search several distant locations and the application did not crash a single time. I think the above fix works well.
Confirmed here too, with the update and without it. The update https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2022-094ef88915 seems to fix this bug.
FEDORA-2022-094ef88915 has been pushed to the Fedora 37 stable repository. If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.
