Description Stephan Mueller 2022-10-06 11:12:31 UTC
Description of problem:

libgcrypt does not support brainpool curves.

When compiling the current upstream libgcrypt code, and use gpg2 with the self-compiled libgcrypt, gpg2 allows the use of brainpool curves.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

libgcrypt-1.10.1-3.fc36.x86_64

How reproducible:

gpg2 --expert --full-generate-key

-> select 9 and check whether brainpool is offered. With current Fedora code, it is not, with my self-compiled libgcrypt it is.

Support for brainpool curves was discussed with legal, and the decision was not to support them:

Richard Fontana confirmed Brainpool ECC is allowed for Fedora in this RHBZ [1].

Comment 3 Jakub Jelen 2022-11-10 13:33:40 UTC
The bug #1413618 is now closed and the libgcrypt package is built in rawhide with support for brainpool ECC. So closing also this one as a duplicate of the bug #1413618 having more information.
