Description of problem: As installed with "dnf groupinstall -y "KDE Plasma Workspaces" Epel 8 currently contains KDE Plasma 5.23 which is no longer supported. KDE Plasma 5.24 is the current LTS version and will be supported until Plasma 6. As such it would make a lot of sense to include / make 5.24 available in epel 8 ( and 9 for that matter ) https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5#LTS_releases
It is already in epel-testing https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2022-73998cad56 This bumps KDE plasma up to 5.24.6. Note1: This is the last major update of plasma for EPEL8. Meaning that although we might go to 5.24.7 on epel8, we will not go to 5.25.x. There are many older libraries in RHEL 8 that are preventing us from updating it to the next version of plasma. This is not Red Hat's fault, but simply the nature of an Enterprise release. We will continue to provide security and critical bug fixes, but no major updates. Note2: We have already tried to get qt6 to build on epel8 without success. Not just a half hearted try, but a real "lets see how many patches I can throw at this" try. I would love to be proven wrong about qt6 on epel8, but thus far nobody has been able to. Because there is no qt6 in epel8, there is no possibility for plasma 6 to be in epel8.
This is now in stable.
Cheers Troy ! I know from various forums that I'm not alone in saying that your efforts are very much appreciated.
