Description of problem: Laptop (Thinkpad T495) is connected to an external monitor. Gnome setup to use only the external and to blank screen after 15 minutes, once the screen is blank the monitor goes to sleep. Sometimes the sencond monitor input gets displayed (when something is connected). After switching monitor input and move the mouse so Gnome displays the lock screen. the lock screen was not displayed but "^@@@@" (if I remember correctly) in a CLI terminal. Since the computer was not responding had to hard reboot it.
