This bug has been migrated to another issue tracking site. It has been closed here and may no longer be being monitored.

If you would like to get updates for this issue, or to participate in it, you may do so at Red Hat Issue Tracker .
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Gaurav Talreja 2022-11-17 20:19:01 UTC
Document URL:

Section Number and Name:
3.1.1. Upgrading a Connected Satellite Server
3.1.2. Upgrading a Disconnected Satellite Server
3.3. Upgrading Capsule Servers (updated earlier in BZ 2096950)
6.1. Updating Satellite Server
6.2. Updating Disconnected Satellite Server
6.3. Updating Capsule Server

Describe the issue:
There is no need to enable the maintenance repository now as thats being handled by the satellite-maintain.

Suggestions for improvement:

Need to remove:

# subscription-manager repos --enable \
satellite-maintenance-6.12-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms
and use below command for connected setup,

#satellite-maintain self-upgrade

And for disconnected setup,

satellite-maintain self-upgrade --maintenance-repo-label <6.12-maintenance-repo-label>

Additional information:
Earlier for 6.11, it was updated only for the capsule upgrade step, and other sections were missing in this https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2096950 , so mentioned sections need an update for both 6.11 and 6.12 docs

Hi Eric, documentation still contains explicit steps for module enable "dnf module enable satellite-maintenance:el8" and maintenance repo enable "subscription-manager repos --enable satellite-maintenance-6.14-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms", which could be done as part of "satellite-maintain self-upgrade" command itself for y-stream upgrades, so shouldn't we document it instead?

Also, we are recommending self-upgrade in Capsule upgrade guide, and its missing in Satellite upgrade guide, which is inconsistent as of now, so I don't think this should be closed as NOTABUG here, I would like to hear your opinion on this,
