Description Gilles Buloz 2022-12-13 09:04:57 UTC
Created attachment 1932289 [details]
Output of command with various options

Description of problem:
Running livecd-iso-to-disk seems to always end with an error message regardless the options passed in the command line.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
livecd-iso-to-mediums-31.0-2.fc37.x86_64

How reproducible:
Easy (systematic)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Get an official ISO image (tested with Fedora-Xfce-Live-x86_64-37-1.7.iso, Fedora-Server-netinst-x86_64-37-1.7.iso, and Fedora-Server-netinst-x86_64-36-1.5.iso)
2. As root, run livecd-iso-to-disk with any mix of --format/--reset-mbr /--efi on device /dev/sd<x> or /dev/sd<x>1. See attachment : livecdisotodisk_f37.txt

Actual results:
The command fails with different error message according to arguments.
See attachment : livecdisotodisk_f37.txt

Expected results:
Successful boot media creation, as in the past with previous livecd-iso-to-disk versions with previous ISO images.

Additional info:
It seems that starting from F37, ISO images are now using GPT instead of MSDOS partition table, but this is not the only root cause of the issue.

Comment 1 Gilles Buloz 2022-12-13 09:15:35 UTC
OK, as a workaround it is possible to directly burn an ISO image to the USB stick using dd, but livecd-iso-to-disk is handy to have the first partition of the USB stick read-write so that it can also be used as a normal storage device on any computer and also have access to these files once booted live from this stick.

Comment 2 Daniel 2022-12-13 15:09:04 UTC
I got the same error for iso file Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-37-1.7.iso because the iso file does not contain isolinux nor syslinux folder.
Iso file Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-36-1.5.iso worked for me.

This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 37 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 37 on 2023-12-05.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '37'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 37 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 5 Aoife Moloney 2023-12-06 11:43:16 UTC
Fedora Linux 37 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on None.

Fedora Linux 37 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux
please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
the version field.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an
active release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
