Description Lukáš Zaoral 2023-01-30 13:23:37 UTC
Hello,
I'd like to use newer Boost in EPEL. However, this package does not seem to be imported properly. Is this intentional?
Thank you!

Regards,
Lukas

For reference:
* Boost1.78 source repository: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost1.78/tree/epel8
* (Regular) Boost 1.78 on Fedora 37:
  + Fedora change request: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/F37Boost178
  + RPM specification file for Boost (1.78), latest version: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost/blob/571ebc8df11139da25447f39af305b647c3fec8b/f/boost.spec
* Review request for Boost1.73 for EPEL8: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1828059#c7
* Boost1.73:
  + Spec URL: https://github.com/fedorapackaging/fedorareviews/blob/a4722663644e33ac20ecff2c79e12c7a5ac955fb/reviews/boost/boost_xxx_boost173/boost1.73.spec
  + SRPM URL: https://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org//work/tasks/6687/43816687/boost1.73-1.73.0-1.el8.src.rpm

Indeed, the main work is still to be performed. The initial intent was to start from Boost1.73 and upgrade to Boost1.78. The work has been done for Boost1.73, but not yet for Boost1.78. The remaining work is to "merge" the regular Boost RPM specification (currently in version 1.78: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost/blob/571ebc8df11139da25447f39af305b647c3fec8b/f/boost.spec) with the EPEL Boost1.73 RPM specification (https://github.com/fedorapackaging/fedorareviews/blob/a4722663644e33ac20ecff2c79e12c7a5ac955fb/reviews/boost/boost_xxx_boost173/boost1.73.spec).

Do not hesitate to submit a pull request (on https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/boost1.78/tree/epel8) or to contribute directly.

Thanks!

Regards

Denis

Comment 3 Lukáš Zaoral 2023-02-13 16:24:08 UTC
Thank you so much for your materials! I've already got a spec ready for EPEL 8 and 9. I'll post a PR tomorrow since I have to also check s390x builds which were unavailable for last few days.

Comment 4 Denis Arnaud 2023-02-13 17:26:20 UTC
You're welcome!

s390x builders are back to work!
For instance, fyi, we just updated Boost169 on EPEL 8: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2130012#c10

Comment 5 Lukáš Zaoral 2023-02-14 11:56:33 UTC
I've just posted a PR to the epel8 branch. The same commits can be used for epel9 as well. The attachment contains a diff between this PR and HEAD of boost's rawhide branch.
