Description of problem: Xpad system tray icon is missing. Issue is with version 5.8, which is packaged for Fedora 37. Version 5.3 in Fedora 36 works fine. Problem seems to be due to the missing dependency of libayatana-appindicator package, which Xpad switched to since version 5.7, instead of libappindicator. Solution would be to package the libayatana-appindicator dependency. A workaround could be to remain on Xpad version 5.3 in Fedora 37 as in Fedora 36, until libayatana-appindicator becomes available. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): version 5.8 How reproducible: Always Additional info: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2041567#c11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/xpad/+bug/1964116 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=264070 https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/xpad
That unfortunate. ;( I don't have any time in the near term to package that up, but hopefully someone will... Thanks for the detailed and informative bug!

Dear Kevin! I understand you have no time to make 5.8 work. Please revert to 5.3 until 5.8 is properly packaged. For anyone wanted to have a working xpad again: mock --rebuild https://archives.fedoraproject.org/pub/archive/fedora/linux/releases/36/Everything/source/tree/Packages/x/xpad-5.3.0-8.fc36.src.rpm sudo dnf install /var/lib/mock/fedora-*-x86_64/result/xpad-5.3.0-8.fc*.x86_64.rpm
FYI: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/till/xpad/packages/ contains a working xpad using the new ayatana libraries as an alternative to comment:2
Do you have any plans to submit the ayatana libs for review?
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 37 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 37 on 2023-12-05. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '37'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 37 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.
FEDORA-2024-942cdb2974 (xpad-5.8.0-6.fc41) has been submitted as an update to Fedora 41. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-942cdb2974
FEDORA-2024-942cdb2974 (xpad-5.8.0-6.fc41) has been pushed to the Fedora 41 stable repository. If problem still persists, please make note of it in this bug report.
I loaded xpad-5.8.0-6.fc41 into F40 alone with its libayantana dependencies and still don't see tray icon. Am I missing something?
Will the fixed version be built for Fedora 40? xpad-5.8.0-5.fc40.x86_64 in the Fedora 40 repo is still the broken version. Workaround is still to remain on xpad-5.3.0-8.fc36.x86_64
FEDORA-2024-400fd232e7 (xpad-5.8.0-6.fc40) has been submitted as an update to Fedora 40. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-400fd232e7
FEDORA-2024-400fd232e7 has been pushed to the Fedora 40 testing repository. Soon you'll be able to install the update with the following command: `sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --refresh --advisory=FEDORA-2024-400fd232e7` You can provide feedback for this update here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-400fd232e7 See also https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Updates_Testing for more information on how to test updates.
The tray icon does appear in test package but left mouse click behavior selector is ignored. Left and right mouse buttons behave the same regardless of selection in preferences.
xpad-5.8.0-6.fc40 fixes the missing system tray icon. However, there is a regression in functionality: clicking on the tray icon no longer shows/hides all pads. In preferences, tray icon is enabled and tray left mouse click behavior is set to "Toggle Show All" but it is behaving as if it were set to "Do Nothing". Still broken on F41.
