This happens consistently every time when I run on 2 displays (laptop + external) in a joined mode and then I hit Win+P and select External only.

Note: When I disable the laptop display in Settings, it works fine. Just Win+P selector is broken and crashes the whole session.

Bug 2177982 contains a very similar crash reported with a newer gnome-shell version, I'll close this one as duplicate.
