sysinfo might not be a good alternative. It seems much more high level and inefficient. Looking at the source, it is parsing /etc/passwd directly, ignoring nss and whatever user database it might dispatch to. whoami seems like a better alternative for some use cases, even though it isn't packaged yet.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 39 development cycle. Changing version to 39.
