Switch to cmake builder in order to package the cmake configuration files: `pcre2-config.cmake` Reproducible: Always
Hi, Thank you for this report. Do you know about any benefits that would this bring to the pcre2 package?
It will allow cmake users to use: ``` find_package(pcre2) ``` Unfortunately the files are not generated by autotools so it does require switching the build configuration. Fortunately the configure flags are more-or-less one-to-one mapped with the [cmake ones](https://github.com/PCRE2Project/pcre2/blob/fb84d7399181161ad8074ee26778007dfcbccd5b/CMakeLists.txt#L215-L355) This is a packaging issue (specifically of `pcre2-devel`) and it should be handled on the fedora side.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 39 development cycle. Changing version to 39.
After an evaluation in the team meeting, we agreed that we don't see any vital issue with not having this. We appreciate the feedback and use reports such as this one to guide our efforts at improving our products. That being said, this bug tracking system is not a mechanism for requesting support, and we are not able to guarantee the timeliness or suitability of a resolution. If this issue is critical or in any way time sensitive, please raise a ticket through the regular Red Hat support channels to ensure it receives the proper attention and prioritization to assure a timely resolution. For information on how to contact the Red Hat production support team, please visit: https://access.redhat.com/support We are also open for any Pull-Request on the open sources for the pcre2 package: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/pcre2 If you create one, it is much easier to review and test your proposed solution.
FWIW the `cmake` and `autotools` builders are not equivalent, and for example this will have the side effect of breaking the build of any application that relies on `pcre2-config`.
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 39 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 39 on 2024-11-26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a 'version' of '39'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version' to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora Linux 39 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version prior to this bug being closed.
FWIW I think the code to support `find_package(pcre2)` might had not make it into a release of PCRE2
Fedora Linux 39 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2024-11-26. Fedora Linux 39 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see the version field. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an active release. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
