Description Jerry James 2023-07-14 20:33:56 UTC
Spec URL: https://jjames.fedorapeople.org/cvc5/cvc5.spec
SRPM URL: https://jjames.fedorapeople.org/cvc5/cvc5-1.0.5-1.fc39.src.rpm
Fedora Account System Username: jjames
Description: This package is intended to replace the cvc4 package currently in Fedora. However, some other packages (drat-trim, lfsc, libpoly, symfpu, and cadical) need to be updated to support cvc5. Just to make things fun, those same updates break cvc4, so I cannot push them to Rawhide until cvc5 has been added, at which point cvc4 will be retired.

To make it possible to test and review cvc5, I have created a COPR that contains the necessary package updates: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/jjames/CVC5/

Package description follows:

CVC5 is a tool for determining the satisfiability of a first order formula modulo a first order theory (or a combination of such theories). It is the fifth in the Cooperating Validity Checker family of tools (CVC, CVC Lite, CVC3, CVC4) but does not directly incorporate code from any previous version prior to CVC4.

CVC5 is intended to be an open and extensible SMT engine. It can be used as a stand-alone tool or as a library. It has been designed to increase the performance and reduce the memory overhead of its predecessors.

PACKAGE APPROVED, nothing must-fix.

Issues:
=======
- Development (unversioned) .so files in -devel subpackage, if present.
Note: Unversioned so-files directly in %_libdir.
  See: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-
  guidelines/#_devel_packages
(ST NOTE: I'm not sure what this issue is referring to - I think everything
  is OK in this regard??)
- Package must not depend on deprecated() packages.
Note: python3-cython0.29 is deprecated, you must not depend on it.
  See: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-
  guidelines/deprecating-packages/
(ST NOTE: I think this will go away when cvc5 is built in Rawhide since
Cython 3.0.0 has been built there, assuming cvc5 builds fine with it.)
- Consider enabling tests (they are run OK on Debian, except on i386 and mips*)

It's interesting that we ended up with a lot of the same patches (mostly tweaks to upstream's build system which is too hard-coded in a lot of cases).

In case you're curious, the Debian packaging is here (patches are in debian/patches):
https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/cvc5

I didn't end up packaging the Pythonic API (just patched it out) because dealing with multiple upstream tarballs is a bit of a pain in Debian.

I do run the unittests in Debian, though. They do work, although there is one test that's broken on 32-bit arches (N/A for Fedora) and a lot are broken on mips* (also N/A for Fedora). There are a couple that use a lot of memory that I patched out.

Comment 3 Jerry James 2023-07-28 20:58:04 UTC
Scott, thank you so much for the review! I will definitely look through what you did for Debian. Comments below.

I think it's talking about cvc5-java, which contains %{_libdir}/libcvc5jni.so, which has no soname. That's fine, because a JNI library doesn't need an soname.

Yes, the BuildRequires is for "%{py3_dist cython}", so it should pull in Cython 3.0.0. I'll do a test build in advance to make sure everything is okay.

That was an oversight. Thanks for catching it. Since you already figured out which tests use a lot of memory, I'll just copy your excellent work. Thanks again.

The Pagure repository was created at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/cvc5

Comment 5 Jerry James 2023-07-29 17:40:58 UTC
Scott, when I ran the tests, many failed. The failures are caused by out-of-bounds vector accesses. A fix can be found in this PR: https://github.com/cvc5/cvc5/pull/9921.

Also, Cython 3.0.0 works fine, to my great relief.

Comment 6 Fedora Update System 2023-07-29 22:51:29 UTC
