Description Fedora Release Engineering 2023-07-25 18:22:22 UTC
libgsystem failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f39

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=103620289

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_39_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix libgsystem at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
libgsystem will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 40,
libgsystem will be retired, if it still fails to build.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 39 development cycle.
Changing version to 39.

Comment 5 Jeffrey Walton 2024-02-23 15:49:16 UTC
This is a problem that only surfaces when one installs glibsystem-devel. With glibsystem-devel installed, the line about GISCAN is present:

  CCLD libglnx.la
  CCLD libgsystem.la
  GISCAN GSystem-1.0.gir
src/gsystem-glib-compat.h:34: Warning: GSystem: symbol='g_clear_pointer': Skipping foreign symbol from namespace Gio
/builddir/build/BUILD/libgsystem-2015.2/tmp-introspectlvqqyft1/GSystem-1.0.c: In function ‘dump_properties’:
/builddir/build/BUILD/libgsystem-2015.2/tmp-introspectlvqqyft1/GSystem-1.0.c:229:7: error: ISO C90 forbids mixed declarations and code [-Werror=declaration-after-statement]
  229 |       const GValue *v = g_param_spec_get_default_value (prop);
      | ^~~~~

If glibsystem-devel is not installed, then GISCAN is skipped and no error occurs.

Should the bug be reassigned?

Comment 6 Jeffrey Walton 2024-02-23 17:10:24 UTC
And the following configure option sidesteps the problem:

    ./configure --enable-introspection=no

I'm not sure of the impact of losing introspection.

Colin, do you have any thoughts?

Added <walters> to CC list. According to <https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/libgsystem>, "There's no bugzilla component currently, please mail patches to: walters."

Walters may be able to provide some insight into the way to fix this.

This package has changed maintainer in Fedora. Reassigning to the new maintainer of this component.

Comment 9 Aoife Moloney 2024-11-08 10:57:48 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora Linux 39 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora Linux 39 on 2024-11-26.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
'version' of '39'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, change the 'version'
to a later Fedora Linux version. Note that the version field may be hidden.
Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see it.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora Linux 39 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora Linux, you are encouraged to change the 'version' to a later version
prior to this bug being closed.

Comment 10 Aoife Moloney 2024-11-27 21:19:53 UTC
Fedora Linux 39 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2024-11-26.

Fedora Linux 39 is no longer maintained, which means that it
will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we
are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora Linux
please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Note that the version
field may be hidden. Click the "Show advanced fields" button if you do not see
the version field.

If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against an
active release.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
