This is a tracking bug for Change: Allow Removal of tzdata For more details, see: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/AllowRemovalOfTzdata Allow the removal of tzdata especially on containers in order to minimize size. If you encounter a bug related to this Change, please do not comment here. Instead create a new bug and set it to block this bug.
This does not seem to be complete. glibc has been changed, but gcc (libstdc++) has not. I didn't check the 'optional' packages yet. Leaving as ASSIGNED. This Change is now at-risk for F39, as we are well past the point where it should have been complete.

I'm working on a new F39 PR now. I apologize for the delay. -Patsy
Changes for gcc and glibc have been added see: gcc: gcc-13.2.1-2.fc39 glibc: glibc-2.37.9000-20.fc39
FYI: There was an issue building Modula2 using the newest gcc https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=111330 This is not related to the tzdata data changes.
FESCo considers this "done" per today's meeting - https://meetbot-raw.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting-2/2023-09-21 - so marking as ON_QA.
Patsy, what about python? Is there any chance that python-libs/pytz/dateutil can relax the requirement for tzdata?
Hi Zbigniew, The current proposal as worded lists python as beneficial to be changed. Various component owners and the python team can make the changes at their convenience. Thanks, Patsy
F39 was released on November 7th, so I am closing this tracker. If this Change was not completed, please notify me ASAP.
