https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?search=clamav

as you can see in link above clamav-0.103.10-1.el7 and clamav-0.103.10-1.el8 are on testing repo .

in 3 day will be on stable if no one complains

Comment 2 Rick 2023-09-05 22:02:15 UTC
I need version 1.0, not 0.103

Currently RHEL 9 has version clamav-1.0.2-1.el9, but it is not available for RHEL 8 or 7

clamav-maintainers -

I'm exploring the COPR route here -
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/orion/clamav-el8/builds/

I'm getting some test failures which I have reported upstream here:
https://github.com/Cisco-Talos/clamav/issues/842

If I can get that resolved, I think it would be good to provide clamav
1.X for EL7/8 in COPR. My suggestion would be to create a 'clamav' FAS
group so we can have a 'clamav' group in COPR that can maintain it.

Thoughts?

Orion

also we request extend 0.103 support

Why? If you do, why not use EL9?

I'm not currently planning on updating EL7, as it goes EOL (June 30, 2024) before 0.103 goes EOL (Sep-14 2024) and I wasn't planning on updating EL8 until 0.103 is EOL.

These systems are critical to some of my companies programs and are not easy to upgrade with so much relying on them.

I agree most EL7 systems will need to be upgraded when they go EOL but RHEL 8 is compliant till 2029 and updates should still be maintained and produced for people still using them. I will not have the ability to upgrade hundreds of systems to RHEL 9 just because 1.0 clamav packages aren't available...

Thank you for this information. Its encouraging to see some people are working on it but it scares me its been quiet for awhile now.

is there anyway to bump that email/comment from Orion or ask if there has been any update?

Comment 8 Rick 2024-01-17 21:02:20 UTC
bump

Comment 9 gerhard.a.neubauer 2024-04-09 09:58:42 UTC
Hi,

what is the status of clamav at EL8?

Any hint what is planned for EL8, seems that nobody take care about EL8 and having a up-to-date-clamav also at EL8.

Seems that nobody is working on the issue failed the EL8 test, right?

I don't know anyone that has direct contact, but the general EPEL policy for incompatible updates involves several steps to spread awareness that can help with this.

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/epel/epel-policy-incompatible-upgrades/

This policy doesn't seem to have been followed here, which is a big problem. This update changes from libclamav.so.9 to libclamav.so.11. It will require rebuilding c-icap-modules and librpminspect. If you release it in the current state you'll break installation of those packages. They should have been rebuilt in a side tag with clamav and released together. This is by definition an incompatible update. Do not push this update to stable until you have followed the policy.

OK , thank you for your attention

Yes, I read that pull request. But this is not something packagers can decide on their own. It must be proposed and then the EPEL Steering Committee decides if the proposal can move forward. Please familiarize yourself with the general EPEL guidelines [0], the EPEL Updates Policy [1], and the EPEL Incompatible Upgrades Policy [2].
